Although minimal compared to the medicinal market, the aquarium industry does consume high quantities of seahorses as they make beautiful additions to any aquarium. The problem is that wild caught seahorses are not conditioned for the aquaria environment and most die shortly after they are purchased. They are accustomed to eating live feeds not found in the pet store, and are mishandled severely during capture and transhipping across the world. which makes them prone to starvation and disease. The wild caught seahorse should only be kept my master aquarists that understand the very special needs of the wild caught seahorse. |
